Artists are some of my favorite people to talk to. I have rarely met an artist that doesn't look at the world in a colorful, new, or just a peculiar way, and I always come away feeling like my life has been enriched for the rest of the day. Admittedly, fiber art is a visual medium that I knew very little about before talking to Dallas based artist, Molly Sydnor. Molly is multidisciplinary artist known for her photography, artistic fashion collections, mixed media, and large scale installations. Her current exhibition is "Temporal Jungle" a part of Intangible, A Fiber Fairytale at Sweet Tooth Hotel.
We also talked about the connections between her queer identity and her biracial identity, and an amazing social community in Dallas called the Lady Queer Collective. The LQC exists as a space for socializing, events, and friendship for anyone who identifies as a woman and/or any one who is a queer ally. Though they are centered around women, they are inclusive of all aspects of the LGBTQ+ community. The LQC exists because they felt that so much of the gay community centered on gay men.
To keep up with her you can find her at @mollymargaretdesigner on instagram and her website is mollysydnor.com You can find the Lady Queer Collective Dallas @lqcdallas on instagram or their website at: www.lqcdallas.com
